Welcome
to Kyrgyzstan. It is situated in the north-east of Central Asia, occupying
part of the Tien-Shan and northern ranges of the Pamir-Alai. From three
sides: north, west and south, it borders with the republics of the former
USSR -Republic of Kazakhstan (1,113 km), Republic of Uzbekistan (1,374
km) and Republic of Tadzhikistan (972 km), and on the east and south-east
- with the People's Republic of China (1,049 km). A country that raised
on the ruins of the Soviet Union. It lays so far in the Asian mountains
that few people know about it. The country is so young that it doesn't
even have its English name. You can meet different ways of its spelling:
Kyrghyzstan, Kyrgyzstan, Kyrghyz Republic, Kyrgyzia. But this is a marvelous
country, a mixture of hi-tech industry and sometimes very primitive
agriculture, highly educated people and nearly real nomads. It is supposed
to be the most democratic among all the Asian republics of the former
superpower.
The climate ranges from extreme continental to nearly maritime due to
considerable relief raggedness and a large lake Issyk-Kul. Summer is
dry and hot. Winter is rather cold, especially in the mountains and
intermountain basins.
Public passenger transport is presented by buses, trolley-buses, fixed-route
taxis (mini buses, making a stop on request of passengers) and taxis.
Cost of travel by trolley-bus is 1 som, by bus - 1 som, by fixed-route
taxi - 1som 70 tyiyns. Payment is made in cash when getting off public
transport. There are a lot taxis (cars with a yellow inscription on
the top) in the city. As a rule, a driver takes a number of passengers
equal to the one of seats in a car. But it is cheaper to get by any
car that one can stop than getting by taxi.
If you have any questions, visit the tourism offices and they can give
you up to date information.
